Garden design that avoids costly mistakes — and gets it right first time

Over 25 years experience in designing and building gardens.
I can give you clarity before you commit money to the build.
- Avoid drainage, level, and layout issues that cause expensive rework
- Get a design that can actually be built within your budget
- Know what works before you start spending money
Full design options are explained after the initial call, once I understand your project, (feel free to browse the design options now if you wish).
I’ll tell you what will work, what won’t—and what to avoid before you start spending money and even if you don’t move forward, you’ll leave the call with clearer direction and fewer unknowns.
Before you spend thousands on your garden, it’s worth knowing if your plan will actually work.
The biggest issues I see aren’t during the build — they’re in the planning.
A lot of issues don’t show up until work has already started—poor drainage, awkward levels, impractical layouts and unrealistic budgets. By that point, they’re expensive to fix.
This process is about identifying those risks early and designing them out before you commit to anything. It’s a far more controlled and cost-effective way to approach your project.

business owner & designer here.
“Whilst budget awareness & practical considerations are part of our key attributes, we never lose sight of the fact that a garden design project should be a thoroughly enjoyable experience for our clients. Their completed garden should be one that they are thrilled with & continue to enjoy for years to come”.

Why our approach is different

Most garden designers focus on how a space will look.
My background is different.
I have experience having spent over 25 years not just designing gardens—but building them.
That means every design I produce is grounded in:
- real construction knowledge
- practical constraints
- and how projects actually unfold on site
What you’ll get from your design
You won’t be left with vague ideas or something that only works on paper.
You’ll have a clear, practical plan for your garden—one that takes into account levels, drainage, layout, and how the space will actually be used day to day.
Everything is thought through properly, so when it comes to building, you’re not second-guessing decisions or discovering problems too late.
I can advise using my in-depth knowledge of a wide range of paving, walling, decking & other hard landscaping products. I have extensive experience in designing & installing garden structures, ponds, planting, tree installation & much more. The knowledge gained having spent 25 yrs+ in landscaping & garden design is put to good use!
Who is this for?
If you’re at the stage where you know you want to improve your garden but aren’t completely sure how it should come together, this is where the process works best.
If you consider your budget is likely to be a significant investment, part of my job as the designer is to help you maximise that budget, to get the most for your money.
If your garden presents problems such as sloping ground, poor access, lack of privacy, etc., this is where experience can turn those issues into practical solutions that enhance the garden, rather than detract from it.
How it works
Steps:

We start with a conversation about your space, what you’re trying to achieve, and any concerns you already have. From there, the focus is on building a plan that actually works—not just visually, but practically.
As the design develops, decisions are made with real-world construction in mind, so everything is grounded and achievable. By the end, you’ll have a clear direction and the confidence to move forward.
The design usually contains both 2D & 3D elements, allowing you to clearly visualise your future garden, whilst allowing your chosen contractor to price & build the garden with confidence.
Experience you can rely on
I have experience of having spent over two decades working hands-on in the landscaping industry.
I’ve seen:
- what works
- what fails
- and what ends up costing people far more than expected
That experience is built into every design I produce.
Even if you don’t move forward with a full design,
you’ll leave the initial call with clearer direction and fewer unknowns.
